ntbackup causes sudden reboot

I am trying to use ntbackup on my win xp pro computer, but it is causing the
computer to suddenly reboot without any warning.
I was originally having issues with the dreaded "delayed write failed" and
tried everything out there to fix this problem. I am not getting the delayed
write error messages anymore, I changed the partiton on the usb drive to
extended, and created a logical drive on the unit, this seems to stop the
delayed write errors. During the delayed write issues, ntbackup would
suddenly make the computer reboot, with nothing in the log files to indicate
what is going on, just as it is doing now. I have the computer set to not
reboot on errors, but no BSOD. I can move large files onto the usb drive
with no issues (something I could not do before the repartitioning).
With no error messages available, I don't even know where to look.
TIA

Rightclick the drive icons in my computer, and see Properties/Tools tab, for
"Error Checking" the drives. Reboot without a bsod is something physical. I
would check the drive cables, etc. Obviously some corruption in the copy
process of backup is throwing a unmaskable interrupt. My guess would be a
worn out drive.

Are you saying it could be bad sectors on my hard drive? Interesting, it is
getting a little old. The usb drive is brand new, and I did check it for
anything weird, but never thought about checking the source drive....
I will check the source drive for errors tonight when I get home.
Thank you Mark for your quick answer

follow up post on this problem:
Hard disk turns out to be fine, ran full error check and no problems.
Finally on 1 of the strange reboots, I got a BSOD. that error pointed me to
a driver screwing up. Ran the driver verifier util to see which one (took me
a long time).
The culprit was one of the drivers for the Computer Associates EZ
anti-virus. Nuked it and installed AVG free. All drivers now pass the
verifier test.

First overnight try at a full system backup again failed, sudden restart
again, no error message, BUT I was able to run a full backup next day. I sat
there and watched the whole time, even the verify worked. Seems to be more
stable, but still has a sudden unexpected reboot sometimes. On to checking
out hardware, but at least I now have a stable backup of the system.

Maybe this info can help someone else out there.
