I ran a McAfee virus scan on my pc with XP.
McAfee found and deleted 8 files with a virus but
unfortunately they were all in Windows/win32/system32.

Now I can't boot up and get an error message (in French)
which I believe says that system cannot be accessed.

My system came with XP already installed so I don't have
XP cd's.

They did give me a recovery disk but that will reinstall
XP but will delete all my files.

I want to save my files but cannot access the hard drive.

Is there any solution for my problem?

Thanks

Walter,

If you have a second HD lying around, pop that in and
reload XP with your recovery CD. Then, put your current
main HD back in as a secondary, copy the files over to
the new main hard drive. Then, put your current main hd
back in place and reload XP. Pop in the backup HD with
your files on it as the slave and restore them. I
strongly suggest that you partition your main HD before
reloading XP onto it and store your files on the D:
drive. this would also help to keep the partition with
your OS on it from becoming fragmented.
