I ran McAfee virus scan on my system (XP) and deleted all of the items that
were detected (none of the items were infected). After that, I was not able
to access my e-mail and certain files. I attempted to recover some items
that I had deleted with Spybot (not sure what they all were), hoping to fix
my aforementioned connection problems. I restarted my computer and now the
desktop icons and the Start menu are gone. How can I possibly correct this?

For a quick fix use "SYSTEM RESTORE"...find a date and time right before you
did you Virus Scan or had the problems you are now having...Do you know how
to use System Restore?? If not let me know and I'll run you through it..
Good Luck...

Thanks Zeus. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here is a Link with a whole lot of Fixes for WinXP..read through the
information carefully as these are VBS files and they will alert you Virus
software of a malicious file, that b/c the VBS files make changes to your
registry. If you find one that fits your problem download it and save it to
documents...When you doubleclick the file it will then install to your
registry, so understand what you are doing before using these system fixes.

Thanks Zeus. The System Restore didn't correct the problem, so if I can get
to the site I think I can work it out.

I know this sounds simple but if you haven't already done this right click
on your desktop then click on Arrange Icons By.....then click on Show Desktop
Icons...maybe it could be something as simple as this..try it and see if
there is a checkmark already by the Show Desktop, if not put a checkmark
there...
Hope this works..

I forgot to mention about your START MENU...Try this..go to Control Panel
and click on TASKBAR AND START MENU....Click on the Taskbar tab at the top
and then look under the Start button where it says AUTOHIDE THE
TASKBAR...Make sure this is UNchecked...
Good Luck Again...
