Three problems. Running XP Home Ed. Big system, no
viruses,every patch imaginable, updates downloaded x 2
weekly, have tried various suggestions but still have
these problems.
1. "Network Connection Screen" comes up stating "You (or
a program) have requested info from ---------"as soon as
you start computer and then returns repeatedly and
constantly forever!!! Frustrating and annoying.Have
ticked the "Don't ask me again until the next time I log
on" box but am really not happy with this remedy because
if I feel like going online the screen will not appear
automatically. Any alternate suggestions?
2.When online pop-up screens (up to 5-6 at a time)with
advertising repeatedly keep coming up. Have used their
web addresses and put into the restricted sites area to
no avail. Any other ideas please?
3.I am running Norton System works, 3 users but no
administrator. When using Clean Sweep the Internet
History will not totally delete from one user only (the
other 2 are ok)Have gone into Internet Options and
cleared the History but still it remains in Clean Sweep.
Have contacted Symantec and their suggestion was that it
has to do with the Index.dat file staying in the open
state, to uninstall and then reinstall Clean Sweep(done).
All to no avail. On the 2nd contact they suggested that
Internet Explorer 5.x protects Internet History files
using a method not yet shared with 3rd party developers
and for this reason versions of Norton cannot clean
Internet History files from this version. Problem is I am
running Internet Explorere 6. Has anyone else encountered
this problem?
Very grateful for any assistance - and please remember
the novice part. Cheers Paula

Sounds like some program is trying to access the internet. If you are
running any IM services (AIM,MSmessenger,Yahoo),Make sure you don't have
them starting when Windows start.
