Notification area pipedream?

I'd really like to arrange the unhidden icons in my
notification area. It seems that Windows XP decides the
positions of these icons and that's the end of it, no
arguments.

But is it at all possible to customize the positions of
unhidden icons in the notification area?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

No. The position depends on the start order of the applications (and
you can see that any order would be destroyed when you start or exit
and restart an application during a Windows session).
