nothing shows up after recovering a deleted items in cached mode

Using Outlook 2003 SP1. When in cached mode, from Deleted Items folder, go
to Tools, Recover Deleted Items, highlight item to recover, hit Recover
Selected Item and nothing shows up. Tried hitting F9 and Shift-F9 and still
doesn't work. When not in Cached Mode can recover deleted items fine.
Deleted OST file and resynchronized and did not help. When I look at the
properties of the Deleted Items folder on the Synchronization tab the "Server
folder contains" and "Offline folder contains" are not the same.

We've just now come across the same situation in our office. Someone
without cached mode can recover Deleted Items just fine. Others with cached
mode run into the same problem you did.

I think I figured out. I set up "Empty Deleted Item folder upon exit" in
group policy. Once I disable that, everything works fine. I think it is
probably a Microsoft bug. Refer http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890050.
