I went to use note pad and word pad in WinXP and they seem
to have suddenly disappeared. They used to be there but
are currently not. I tried going to Control panel,
add/remove programs, add windows programs but they are not
in there, not evan under accessories. I haven't done
anthing weird in the last few days, although another
person that uses the computer did instal a cisco systems
program. Does anyone know why the would be gone and/or
how to get them back?
I would greatly appreciate the advice.
will i do currently still have MS WORD for XP i'd like to
have those other programs so that i can open their files,
without having to change the extension each time and see
them in an unintended fashion.
Regards

Most likely it's only the shortcuts that have disappeared.
Try this.

Right click on your desktop and choose New > Shortcut
Copy and paste in the following line into "Type the location of the item:" -
%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe
Click Next
Use the name you want for the shortcut - Notepad
Click Finish

Repeat the above steps for Wordpad, except copy and paste this line -
"%programfiles%\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

Put the shortcuts where ever it is you want to keep them.

no you certainly have misunderstood me, these tow
programs are not in either my start menu nore can i load
them through add/remove windows programs. I have also
tried browsing the WINXP cd and taking the notepad.exe, or
wordpad.exe file and copying it onto my computer, yet this
does not allow me to run the program either.
Is there some way that these programs could have been
uninstalled? and how would i re-install them?

allright i solved my problem with notepad, yet word pad is
still missing... to solve the notepad problem i found the
notepad exe file and copied it then deleted teh old one
and make a shortcut for teh new one and placed it in my
start menu. Where would i find wordpad.exe, or how could
i re-install it?

thanks, i worked out the notepad problem.
But when i lookin my Program Files>Win NT folder there is
nothing there. hmmm... why would there be nothing there?
Doesn't that automatically load when you install XP?

Wait a sec, that means that if there is nothing in my
Windows NT folder than i dont have pinball either. What
is this world coming to?

That's a system folder and probably marked as hidden as well.
By default, explorer won't show you it's contents.

Did you try creating the shortcut?

Bob

Where did you find notepad.exe?
If you deleted the one in windows System32 folder, that was a mistake.
