notepad/wordpad shortcut

The notepad and word pad shortcuts in Start/Accessories do not work. Neither
do shortcuts to the desktop that I sent from the Start shortcuts or the
source directories. I have no idea why or when they stopped working. If
anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The properties target fo notepad is
%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe

Ditto for wordpad is
"C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

So right click on each of those items, go down to properties
and see if that`s what`s in the target box.

the target boxes are correct and each says "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%" in the
start in box. Also, if I double click the program itself in the home
directories, the programs work. So the program itself doesn't seem to be the
problem.

I downloaded the both programs to a folder I use exclusively for downloads
but they failed to open as well. That particular folder is on a different
partition than the Windows folder.

The instructions pertain to regedit and vbs scripts. The downloads are
wordpad.exe and notepad.zip. I don't see anything else. I hope you can bear
with me.
