Notepad for Windows XP Home

I've been looking through Notepad for Windows XP Home and have come across a
couple of problems. First, in the Edit menu, there's an item called "Go
To...". No matter what I do, I can't seem to get this to highlight. Help
says it should take me to a line within my document, but creating a document
with multiple lines still doesn't allow me to use this function. Was it ever
programmed into Notepad? Second, the only thing in the View menu is "Status
Bar", but it never highlights either. Is this another bug in Notepad?

Ramesh is of course correct. With 'Word Wrap' on; the number of lines is
dependant on (among other things) the width of the window.

Okay. Thanks, Guys. I turned Word Wrap off and both functions are now
there. What I don't understand is why Word Wrap makes any difference. If I
enter multiple lines, they should be independent of Word Wrap. Why should it
be necessary to turn Word Wrap off?

With 'Word Wrap' on; the actual number of lines is masked since the width of
the window and or the font size now dictates the apparent number of lines.

Okay, that makes sense for the Go To function, but why would they mask the
Status Bar as well?

Status bar usually displays the Line # and Column #. With Word Wrap on, for
the same reason Dave indicated, status bar is turned off as it's not of use.

It's meaningless if word wrap is on. So turn offf word wrap then goto whereever you want. Ditto the status bar will only show if word wrap is off.

Now that's two problems I've solved for you. One you didn't even know you had.

Normally I look up people queries in Help to show them how to fix their own problems in the future. But Notepad, and XP's Notepad is a newish program, makes no mention of wordwrap effects on other commands. Naughty MS.
