notepad.exe deleted by scanner - how can I replace it?

Hi. My virus scanner deleted notepad.exe when it was
infected with a virus. Anyone know how I can restore this
program?

It was deleted from two locations:
c:\WINNT and
c:\WINNT\System32

I've done a lot of searching, but I haven't found the
answer.

I'm running windows2000

Thanks!

It's in the i386 folder on your Win2000 CD, same as
every other operating system file.

Great! thanks for the info - now...

I've searched the disk, and found the file
called "NOTEPAD.EX_" in the i386 folder. I assume this is
the right file.

The next question is, how do I get it to the right place
or places?
1). Do I just rename it as "notepad.exe" and drag & drop
it to the right folder spots? or..
2). Do I need to do an "extraction" in command prompt, or
use some other sort of tool?

Any help finding out how to move or install this file
would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

At a command prompt enter "Expand /?" without the quote marks, of course.

Well, thanks to the help from both of you, I was able to
expand the NOTEPAD.EX_ file from the i386 folder on my w2k
CD. Turned out it was pretty dang easy, ya just need to
know how to do it.

For anyone else who needs to do something similar, here is
a very helpful page about expanding files. They have more
info and some EXAMPLES which make it easy to figure out
how to do it.

Thanks guys!
