Notebook will not enter standby automatically

Please help! I currently have my computer configured with the following power
options:

Turn off monitor: After 15 mins
Turn off hard disks: After 10 mins

System standby: After 30 mins
System hibernates: After 1 hour

However, I will return to my computer hours later and it will return to my
desktop, never having entered standby. I have been looking through some of
the posts on the website, looking for some help, but I have not had any luck
so far. I have unchecked the option to allow the NIC to bring the computer
out of standby, but I am still having issues with this. Are there any other
programs that could be running on my computer that could be leading it to
believe that it is not idle? HELP! This is really driving me crazy!

Hi, I think your laptop stayed in standby mod only for 30 minutes, after
hibernation takes over. Disable or put hibernation for longer time. You can
also set it for an option ("When I close the lid"-Standby) in setup action of
power saver, and the monitor should not be turned off faster then HDD.

Thanks Natasha for your reply, however, I can tell you that my computer never
gets to the standby mode. I am certain that screensaver does kick in and the
screen does shut off, but I do not think the hard disks even turn off. Either
way, I know that my computer is not entering standby, as it does not enter
standby itself unless I actually close the lid (as I do have it set to do
that when I close the lid manually. Though, what I wish my computer to do is
to automatically enter standby in the event that I have walked away from my
computer for longer than expected. It should work the same as well, if I set
my computer to "do nothing" when I close the lid. I am not sure what the
problem is, but for some reason my computer is not running idle. In additon,
I do have the settings to where the monitor is turned off at the same time as
the HDD. It was a typo on my part, sorry. If any of you have any other
thoughts please tell me, because I think I have covered just about every
option I can think of as to what the problem is.

Do you have 1 gig of memory in the machine?? If so, I believe that is
the problem... however I do NOT have a fix as I have a similar
problem
