Notebook outter buttons not working after upgrade

I have a hp pavilion notebook and got with XP Home.
Recently I upgraded to XP Pro, and the volume buttons
quit displaying on the screen. Since then I've tried to
get other tech support, and I've basically lost all my
one touch buttons and I'm pissed and frustrated (but
isn't that everyone on here). So email me if you could,
or just reply I'll try and check back

What did the HP tech support people say?
Have you tried posting over on the HP support forums about the keyboard
one-touch key problems?

There is a startup application that is required to run the function keys
and buttons. This application is available on the HP support site for
your model laptop, I believe. www.hp.com
