USB connection lost after reboot

Hi,

I 've recently bought a Targus mini notebook optical mouse (PAUM010E).
When I connect the device with my notebook (BenQ JoyBook A33E), windows
detect the mouse without any problem.
If I reboot the pc and leave the mouse in the usb connector, the mouse
doesn't react any more.
In the 'device manager' I find an entry 'Unknown device' under the
'USB-Controller' node.

When I disconnect the mouse, the 'Unknown device' entry disappears. If I
then reconnect the mouse, everything works perfect.

I've already re-installed the USB-Controllers but nothing changed.

I also tried the mouse on other notebooks:
- notebook with XP Pro: no problems
- notebook with XP Home: same problem (connection lost after reboot).

It seems this only happens with Windows XP Home.

Does anyone have a solution for this strange behavior?

Kind Regards

Frederik

Disconnect and reconnect as you've been doing. For whatever reason, your
laptop is not enumerating USB devices perfectly during a startup. Might
check for a BIOS update from the manufacturer. Only update if the package
description addresses a problem that you're having.

Side note: Something I've done on my portable is to disable "sleep" to USB
devices. Drains a bit of battery life but USB devices stay live instead of
disappearing. Look for power management settings in a device's properties
(while in Device Manager). If available, you'll see a Power Management tab
where you can customize.
