Note-It v2.5.0.4

This is one of the best desktop note applications around. What would it
hurt to just check out Note-It's home page (link below) and see the
screenshots.

As always Veign strives to provide free, useful applications and always
interested in hearing some suggestions for future application
applications...

Yes, and even ATnote is just a bit less than 1 mb.

This is indeed pretty good it has a couple of extra features,
(such as MP3 an player). Yet not for me the heavy keyboard
user, though, there is no way to use shortcuts keys to do many
things with this proggy :-(

*Goodies*!! :)

I spent ages with Jack Creations' Scrappad before moving to this one.
I love the way they can 'roll up' and set reminders etc.

It will take a lot to tempt me away from it now...

The thing that makes this so big is the XML processor from MS (add around
3Meg) - I need to create a standalone XML processor so I can scrap the MS
one but this was the easiest move to get the release out and start getting
feedback.....

Look into xerces (http://xml.apache.org).

Or, switch to msxml3 instead of 4, and provide a separate install
package for users who already have it. This will include anyone
running Winxp or IE6. Others will need the larger install.

My fear was that some users would not understand the separate download and
therefore get confused when the application does not work. Thanx for the
heads up though and I will give some thought to an alternate installation
package for the next release....

Yes, I agree. I'm not a big fan of lots of choices for what parts to
download. It's nice for expert users, but too many people don't
understand the choice, and will download the wrong package. Even if
you diagnose this in the installer and display something like "You
don't have XP or IE6, you need to download the other pacakage", the
user (who may have disconnected from the internet by now) is annoyed.

The xerces project is a viable alternative. It provides a DLL that
gives you DOM and SAX, with good performance, and is quite stable. The
DLL is 2.5 MB, but it zips to under 800K. If you need XSLT (which is
also part of msxml, but my guess is you're not using it), you will
need xalan, as well (another apache project). The two DLLs needed for
xalan are about 1.8 MB, zipped to 600 KB.

These are plain DLL's, so there is no registration, and no
dependencies on IE, or versions of windows, etc.

You could also decide to do nothing, of course. :)

Sorry, we're getting pretty far OT for the non-programmers of this
group... :)

I guess that must be true - I never noticed it, so I can't be much into
keyboards,

Funny thing is I thought adding the MP3 and alarms was really retrograde as
all I want is *just* a sticky note prog.

But I'm glad to see the scone recipe has been retained

well..this is in fact kind of true for myself, too, though, I
was saying that because I can imagine that someone would
appreciate that kind of features and it is pretty creative to
me - a sticky note program that play MP3 :-] you know... But
as for myself, I used sticky note from time to time but then I
just found that I didnt use them much enough to have them on
all the time.

This remind me something I installed yesterday and found that
it is pretty neat. I downloaded Slickrun yesterday and its
installer found that I don't have a component (about 800kb) it
needs. Then it told me and proceed to start downloading it
and install the whole thing just fine afterwards. Of course I
am not saying that is should automatically do so if that
component is like a large download, but it sure is an option
to do that if the component is not that big.

Ooh I do; in the acbsence of a satisfactory clipboard extender, I'd be
totally lost without them

Have you tried that clipboard extender call CLCL that they
have been talking about? I tried it and indeed like it fine.
I myself would love to find a very simple and small todo list
with full keyboard support, though.

I dislike those sorts of installs. Microsoft does this all the time.
But if the machine you are installing on is not connected to the
internet, you can't install (or you have to do someth other step, and
you don't find out what that step is until you are installing, perhaps
a long ways from your internet connection).
