Not too bright!

Just had this Lexmark Z601. It has two cartridges onboard, one colour, one
black.

Questions:

When I just print a letter out in only black does it know which cartridge to
use?

Do I have to tell it via the software which cartridge to use?

Obviously I know if it is printing a colour page in black its only using the
black, but is it also using the colour cartridge to print out just using the
black ink.

You can force it by selecting black & white on the printer page of
your software.

My printer prints black by using a mixture of the color inks.

But, I can manually switch a color cartridge with a black one and it
will then use only the black ink to print black. Go figure.
