NOT showing e-mail attachments

My Windows XP Pro Outlook Express shows attached pictures
in the preview pane of messages even though I have
UNchecked 'send pictures with message' and I never use
HTML in my mail sending format (I use plain text always).
My old Windows Millenium did NOT do this. I want to send
messages w/attachments that DO NOT show (pictures - ever)
in the preview pane, so that, if the recipient wants to
view the picture, she must click the attachment icon to
view it. This is embarrassing. How do I make Outlook
send real 'PLAIN TEXT' messages?

When you attach the picture file, what steps are you taking? Insert/File
Attachment will attach the picture as a file. Insert/Picture will display
the picture in the preview pane.

OE automatically *displays* such attachments after the text portion of the
message. The pictures are *not* inserted. This is default behavior since
OE5.5 (at least).
