Not Responding

I use Office 2000, with XP.

It seems as if when trying to get E-mail, Outlook locks up and does not
respond.

I have updated all of the downloads and this still happens.
 
Are there any error messages/numbers? Do you have your AV scanning incoming
and/or outgoing mail? How often are you polling for new messages? Do you use
a PST and if so, what size is it?
