Not receiving pictures

Hi,
I'm not receiving pictures that are included in some emails that have been
sent to me. There is no attachment to open.
All I get is a white empty square where the picture should be, with a small
white square with a red cross in it in the top left corner.
The text all appears to be normal.
I would appreciate any help please.

First, ascertain if there really is a picture included in that message.
Is the message file size less than 10K? If so, it's not likely to contain
a picture. Then look at the raw source code: Ctrl+F3. If you don't see
a mass of random characters, there's no picture included. While
you are looking at the source code, do you see mention of a file
named winmail.dat? If so, was that email sent by someone using
Outlook?
