Not receiving attachments in OE v6 from Outlook 2000

JP

I'm running Outlook 2000 (don't think it's been updated) on Windows
2000 & XP, and Outlook Express (has been updated) on the same. All
the OS's have been updated. Sometimes when we send an email message
from Outlook 2000 with an attachment, we may receive the attachment in
other Outlook 2000 inboxes, but only the message without an attachment
in Outlook Express inboxes. We're using Pop3 internet email only.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

You are probably using Rich Text Format in Outlook. Outlook Express can't
read it.

Unlike what the other poster said, it has nothing to do with rich text. Go
to Tools/Options/Security and uncheck the obvious.

Oh yes it does, READ THE POST. The OP says that the OE users "don't get the
attachment" - NOT "OE denies access to the following unsafe attachment". If
you send from Outlook in Rich Text Format then a recipient using OE will get
the Email but NOT the attachment.

You are wrong. If the message was sent with Outlook's RTF format Outlook
Express can't find the attachment.

I didn't know that and I stand corrected. Thanks.

Look under the Security tab, "Do Not allow attachments...blah blah..."

I apologize for the cross posting but I was not sure which one to
use. I origuinally tried
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.outlookexpress but the
group seemed hardly used and I'm sure OE users have a question or
two. ;)

I was working on a friends machine to help clean it up. Removed an
old Netscape 4.*, ran adaware and spybot and heaved a bunch of noted
spy crap. I guess in my zealousness I through some of the baby's
toys out with the bath water.

Now, if I'm in a piece of mail on OE that has a web page and click
to go there, it seems to be looking for an application and throws me
into a box saying

Windows cannot find Program.exe
This program is needed for opening files of type 'URL:HyperText Transfer
Protocol'
Location of Program.exe:
C:\

Is the missing path/function/etc:
1. something I can find and correct through preferences?
2. problem too vague and just re-install OE and go from there?

As for re-installing OE, is it best to uninstall first and if so
does it leave old mail and address book alone, or just drop it on
top and hope the missing function(s) gets reloaded? I'm leaning
toward just a simple reinstall on top.

3. some other path?

I'm running into the same problem ever since I upgraded to Outlook
2003. It happens frequently with emails I receive with inline images
or attachments. I forward it on and everyone using Outlook Express
doesn't get the attachments/images - even zip files. I even have one
friend using AOL and the same happens. Today's email was in HTML
format - not Rich Text - perhaps they are handled in a similar
fashion?

I was hoping that if I downgraded back to Outlook 2000 but in
Google'ing I think it may be related to Outlook 2003 Exchange Server
and how it handles Mime differently. Which would make sense since
this poster has the same problem with Outlook 2000.

Sounds like an update is due for Outlook Express. :(

It would be nice if Outlook Express were updated to support TNEF. That would solve part
of the problem. There are utilities available so that Outlook Express can access the TNEF
attachment, but it's a bit of a bother.

However, in some cases, the problem is in the Exchange Server and the server removes the
attachment to some recipients, so that the Outlook Express recipient doesn't have a
chance.

For additional information, see the MS-TNEF WINMAIL.DAT Attachments section of
