Not Detecting Sound Device After Win2k Install

H

Heidi

I have looked high and low on every message board I can
think of and I think I just don't know the right question
to ask. Bottom line: I had sound when I was running 98,
now with the 2K install there are no device drivers. It's
like the hardware disappeared. I haven't touched anything.
Just added some RAM. Can someone help me?

Correction: No audio devices listed in the device manager
or anywhere else. I went in CMOS setup and found ac97
sound device. Does that mean something? I am way out of my
league here.

Since you found it in the BIOS that means that it is part of the
Motherboard. This means you need to go to the manufacturers website for
your motherboard and download the Windows 2000 drivers for this
motherboard. The sound drivers should be there.

I take it that you did a clean install, in which case you will probably need
to put your mother board CD in to find the drivers that you need
