No sound device after XP Home re-installation

I just had to re-format and re-install my XP Home O.S. and I ran all of the
updates available SP2,3 etc up to present. There is no sound and I get a
notice "No Sound Device Installed". When I check Device Manager It lists
codex and Legacy Drivers etc, but no sound device,only a "media control
devices".
What can I do to get my sound back?? It was always quite good before this
operation. Much thanks!

Brian, usually you should have gotten a Software CD with your Computer.
It should have the Audio Drivers on it. Just reinstall them. If no CD, and
your Computer is a brand name
like Dell go to their website and look under Support. They should have
the drivers you need.

What happens when you download and install the WinXP-specific audio
drivers, as provided by your sound card's or computer's manufacturer?
Hint: They'll be on the drivers disk(s) that came with either the
computer, the motherboard, or the audio controller (if purchased
separately), or on support web site of the manufacturer of the computer,
the motherboard, or the audio controller, which ever applies.

Thanks Rich,that was it,I found the driver on "Dell.com".
Thanks Bruce. Actually this is my first comuter and I found it in a
dumpster and naturally it didn't come with any CDs or any info at all for
that matter. It did include every form of malware known and unknown it seems.
It's been a very tough learning curve!!!

I have the same problum, i got this pc gaven to me and i took to my friend
who fixes and makes pcs, the op was trashed, so he reinstilled windows and
added more ram, i instill all the drives off make of my pc off the websits,
but i have no sound, mine is a onbored sound card, it is realtech a 97 i
think, on the windows sound it say no audio drive, i got told it could be the
uua sound drive, if so how can i fix that,

I have the same problum, i got this pc gaven to me and i took to my friend
who fixes and makes pcs, the op was trashed, so he reinstilled windows and
added more ram, i instill all the drives off make of my pc off the websits,
but i have no sound, mine is a onbored sound card, it is realtech a 97 i
think, on the windows sound it say no audio drive, i got told it could bethe
uua sound drive, if so how can i fix that,

The Microsoft UAA driver is just a module to allow you to install the
correct HD sound driver. Look here:

Boot into BIOS and see if the onboard sound is disabled.
