Not Connected error (but connection is fine)

Lately when I get a shutdown error and the system asks if I want to report to
Microsoft and I choose Send Error Report, the system tells me I need to be
connected to the internet to do so, even though I am connected (i.e. web
browsing, email etc works fine). This also happens in one of my applications.

Any thoughts as to how the system may think I'm not connected when I really
am?

Right click my Computer and select properties
click the Advanced Tab, then click Error Reporting button
Select Disable Error Reporting

I think the problem is::

The "NOT connected" Error!!!

the system tells me I need to be connected to the internet to do so, "even
though I am connected"

I don't want to disable error reporting, I want to be able to send in error
reports. Similar problem with other software (ACDSee, Windows Media Player)
thinking I'm not connected. Any thoughts?

You just need to run the Connection setup wizard and "Tell/Teach"
XP what it's default connection mode/type is to the Internet. Make
sure the Error Reporting Service is enabled/running. Access the
setup via Internet Options in Control Panel, Connections (TAB),
Setup {Button}

I think we're on to something here.
Facts:
i) internet connection works. wireless connection icon in tray indicates
connected at 54Mbps
ii) "wireless network connection" widow indicates my network is
"disconnected".

???? a contradiction?

So I should use the "new connection wizard"? What choices?

Thanks for your help.
