I have several computers connected to a network drive. When I connect to the
drive with the Vista computer, the explorer window only shows 99 files when
there are actually 257 files as my other computers running XP properly show.
Any ideas as to why?

Hello,

There is a bug in some NAS devices and linux computers that causes them not
to work properly with Windows Vista.

This bug causes incomplete folder listings to be displayed in Windows Vista.

The problem is due to a bug in Samba, which is the software component that
handles file sharing with Windows computers. The bug has already been fixed
in Samba version 3.0.22 and above.

You will need to download and install a firmware upgrade from your device
manufacturer to fix this problem.

If your device manufacturer does not have an upgrade available or the
upgrade does not fix the problem, they *should* be working on one. You may
wish to e-mail them and inform them that their product does not work with
Windows Vista with the latest firmware, just in case.

Hello,

I've got samba 3.0.24-6etch on my Linksys NSLU2 device and Vista shows only
418 files of a directory containing 2482 files (verified with telnet SSH).
All files were correctly copied, but most of then are no more visible with
Vista.

I tried dir, it shows files beginning with a to d. If I try dir m*.*, it
shows part of the m-beginning files. So they can be accessed.

Regards

Jean-Marc
