Printer as mapped drive

Hi all,

I have a couple questions.

First, these are actually for Windows 7, but it doesn't appear MS has made
newsgroups available for Win7 unless you want to use their web-based forum.
So my first question is are there NNTP newsgroups on MS's server for Win7
questions?

Now, my real questions are these. I have an HP Photosmart C7280 printer.
Every time I have to restart Windows, it insists on mapping this printer to
a drive letter. It's usually Z: unless there is something else (for
example, a virtual drive or network drive) already mapped to Z:. Then it
maps the printer to the next lower letter, such as Y:. I cannot do anything
with this "drive". If I click on the "drive" in Explorer, it just shows a
message box stating "Z:\ is not accessible. An unexpected network error
occurred." So my questions are why does Windows insist on mapping my
printer as a network drive and what can I do to prevent it? I find it
annoying because when I created virtual drives, I prefer to make them Z: and
have shortcuts and paths in programs for that. But when this printer gets
mapped to Z:, I can't assign that drive letter to virtual drives. Now, I CAN
choose "Disconnect network drive..." from the Tools menu and that will
remove the printer from the mapped drive. But upon rebooting, it's mapped
again.

If it's relevant, the printer is wireless and connects to my home network. I
have other wireless devices (Xbox 360 and PS3) also connected via my home
network. Windows doesn't map those (and they actually have hard drives). I
actually wouldn't mind if Windows mapped those (as long as I could assign
the drive letter) because it'd make it much easier if I wanted to copy music
or video files to them.

Thanks for any insight.

Oh...and yes, I do know about the NNTP Bridge app. It's terrible and it's a
pain.
