Not able to switch profiles in Outlook 2003

My OS is XP Pro and I am using Outlook 2003 (I am NOT using Outlook Express)
I have two profiles setup--one for business and one for private emails.
Everything has been working fine for several years. Now when I open Outlook I
get the normal box and prompt to choose a profile that I want to open. BUT
when I close that profile and reopen Outlook I do not get that box and I do
not have a choice--it just opens in whatever profile was used last. I have to
reboot in order to get into the OTHER profile. I have tried some of the
suggestions as outlined in this dicussion group--but I still have the same
problem. Please help!

I checked task manager and "Outlook.EXE" was still listed. I "ended the
process" and reopened OUTLOOK--I got the message that OUTLOOK did not close
properly and it was checking the files. I still had the same problem. I just
did that procedure again and I did NOT get the message about OUTLOOK not
closing properly. I reopened OUTLOOK and it worked okay (the box came up and
allowed me to choose which profile that I wanted) I will try it for a day and
see if it is okay--I will let you know the results.

Well--I didn't need a day to check it out. Still have the same problem. But I
am thinking that OUTLOOK is not closing properly. If I go into TASK MANAGER
and end the OUTLOOK.EXE process--they it works okay one time.

Thanks for the info--I looked at and removed two "add-ins" (one was a iTune
and the other was something from Trend Micro) It seems to be working okay
right now--I will recheck it and see if it stays okay. I will let you
know--thanks Brian

Well--removing the "add-ins" seems to have eliminated the problem. One
question though--before I had this problem I noticed that when closing
OUTLOOK and reopening it to use my other profile--I had to wait a few seconds
(maybe 10 seconds) before it would allow me to open the other profile. If I
tried to do the switch too fast the small box would pop up for me to make a
choice but the larger OUTLOOK screen would not be there. Now if I try to
switch to fast I get a small message box that says "operation failed". Is
this a normal thing?

Thanks for your help!

I don't recall seeing it before, but who knows. I do know, though, that
Outlok 2007 takes longer to shut down that Outlook 2003.
