Switch Profile in OL 2002

Suddenly I am haivng trokuble switching profiles in OL 2002 (Win XP). I
have two profiles, one for business and the other personal. As I recall
this was to keep business e-mail and personal e-mail separate. (Maybe that
was not a great idea but that was the advice I was given a year or so ago)
Until yesterday I was able to switch OL rofiles simply by closing OL and
restarting it. When it restarted it would prompt me to select a profile.
Now when I restart OL it no longer prompts me for a profile but uses the
same profile as when it was last open. I can't figure out how to manually
change the profile. I tried OL Help ("Switch to another OL e-mail profile")
which tells me to open the Mail Setup dialog box by going to Control Panel,
User Accounts and clicking Mail. But when I do so there is no Mail to
click, so that doesn't work. If I go to Mail in Control Panel and click
Show Profiles I see my two profiles and under When starting OL use this
profiles, a dot with Prompt for a Profile to be Used. But of course OL
seems to be ignoring this instruction. What gives? And how can I fix it?

And I guess I ought to reconsider using two profiles.

I forgot to mention that OL will prompt me to select a profile when it
starts up only after I reboot the computer.

Thanks for your response. I unchecked all the add-ins in the Add-in
Manager. And for good measure I also did so for the Com Manager. Yet OL
still will not close and restart properly. After closing OL I can see
Ouktlook.exe is still running in the task Manager. Along with a plethora of
processes, a few of which I think I recognize.
Of the programs listed in the KB Article I have fax software (not sure how
to keep it from automatically loading on startup. My Blackberry synch
software does not run automatically. I certainly have anti-virus and
anti-spam software. After briefly disabling my WiFi connection and
disabling the anti-virus, spam etc., I tried closing and opening OL but had
the same problem. If I cna figur eout how to diable the fax software I'll
try that. IN the past day or two I have dowonloaded some software to try to
work with DVDs. Perhaps something went wrong there.

Note: I mistakenly stated I am using OL 2002. A typo which I hope was not
misleading. I have been using Office 2003 and OL 2003 for several years.

It depends on the fax software that you are using. Uninstalling it would
always be an option to determine if it is indeed the cause.
Note that disabling your virus scanner in not the same as disabling its
integration components with Outlook. In most cases you'll have to reinstall
it without the email scanning component. You'd still be sufficiently
protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus scanner. For more
details see;

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. However, I suspect the problem is some
recently installed software since the problem is or very recent origin. I
have been using that fax software--occasionally, since e-mail seems to do a
better job--for at least 2 years without encokunterning this problem. But
then again some recent automatic upgrade could have upset the apple cart.

I uninstalled my fax software. As far as I know this is the only fax
software I have (eFax Messenger) but theproblem persist Oddly, when I now
close OL and open the Task Manager I no longer see Outlook.exe running.
There are tons of other thigs running, including something called
OfficeLiveSignIn. Not sure what that is, apart from another Microsoft
Miracle. I am going to try rebooting in case that makes a difference.

Well, uninstalling the eFax software seems to have done the trick.
Hopefully I won't need it any time soon. Thanks!

Good to hear and you're welcome! :)
See if your fax software has some option to manually start/stop the service
or application. In that case it will most likely release outlook.exe as
well.

The OfficeLiveSignIn is most likely coming from the Office Live add-in that
you have installed. It allows you to store documents to Office Live directly
from within several Office applications.
