My nortons is giving almost every program access to the
internet automaticially. So if I'm on the telephone it
will connect and I have to hold on to the person and
disable it. And if I go to my recycle bin almost
everything I have looked at or opened is in there. I'VE
READ THE BOOK, many times and it does not explain these
problems. I like my nortons, it's saved me from many a
trojan horses, but I don't know how to use it correctly,
I think, or I haven't done something I should have.
My computer came with Freedom Security and Privacy. I
always shut this down when it comes up on my start menu.
Should I be doing this and is it something more than
firewall and virus protection? Thank you.

Gwen,

You appear to be experiencing several problems and it is extremely difficult
to troubleshoot without knowing what programs are installed on your system.
What Symantec (Norton) software is installed on your system? See the

Norton Systemworks 2003 contains a number of modules; Norton Antivirus 2003
is one of them but Norton Personal Firewall is not. There is nothing in NAV
2003 that blocks anything from coming into or leaving your system unless it
is related to the antivirus function.

So if I'm on the telephone it
will connect and I have to hold on to the person and
disable it.

This may have to do with how LiveUpdate has been instructed to get your
antivirus updates or possibly how/when you have instructed to get on the
Internet.

And if I go to my recycle bin almost
everything I have looked at or opened is in there.

Generally speaking from a privacy viewpoint, finding that information in the
Recycle Bin is a very good thing - you are not leaving your "tracks" behind
on your system so that others who may use it can see where you've been
(useless though if you don't empty it).

Which book?

I've heard of the company which created Freedom Security and Privacy but I
am not familiar with their product or their subscription service. The
product and service seems to closely resemble the Norton Internet Security
product. Here's a link to their website:

It also appears that you may be running more than one antivirus program;
this can cause problems in some instances.

Let the newsgroup know if you need anything else.
