Norton System Works 2006 prevents shutdown

I installed Norton System Works 2006 a few days ago. Since then my
computer (Windows XP Pro SP2) hangs when I try to shut it down. The
computer goes through the first two stages of shutdown, viz. "Logging
off..." and "Saving your settings...", but it hangs in the third stage,
"Windows is shutting down..." I have to shut it off using the main
(external) power switch on the power supply (rear of the chassis).

I have disabled checking the A-drive on shutdown. I have scoured the
Symantec website for a remedy, but found nothing that works. There are
no settings at all in the BIOS for power management. Shutdown has worked
perfectly since I bought this computer (a year ago) until I installed
System Works.

Might a so-called 'repair re-installation' of Windows XP correct the
problem? Will such a drastic move really leave all my applications able
to run or will I have to re-install most or all of them? (Re-installing
all my applications would likely take several days.)

Should I simply un-install System Works, try to get a refund from
Symantec, and purchase some competitor's product? If the latter, which
one?

Many thanks.

Added Aug 8, 2006 - The source of the problem lies in GoBack. I have
disabled that option within System Works and the problem has been cured.
I have asked Symantec for a fix/patch for GoBack and am awaiting a reply.
