Norton problem

For the past several days my friend can't send or receive email or connect
to the internet, however when we disable Norton Antivirus both work okay.
He has the Internet Security turned off and just today turned on the
Windows firewall. He has XP with SP2 and Outlook Express as his email.

Although my guess would be with te outgoing mail scanning of Norton.
