Norton Personal Firewall w/XP Home Sp2

Brand spanking new Compaq R3200 Laptop with XP Home Sp2. I
installed Norton Personal Firewall 2003 & Norton System
Works 2002, ran all updates through Live Update. Here's
the issue I have. The system works, or anti virus, loads
very slowly. The firewall will not load unless I log off
then log back on after boot. I've tried disabling the XP
firewall with the same results. I tried uninstalling the
programs and reinstalling them. First the firewall then
the system works. First the system works then the firewall
with the anti virus disabled. Finally with the XP firewall
disabled during both ways of installing the softwares. Any
ideas?

yes, norton firewall 2004 and all of 2004 programs have been upgraded for
sp2
Symantec has NOT done any updates for 2003
I have the same problem with my firewall 2003
I am waiting for the new one, 2005 which comes out in oct
