Windows Firewall turns off

B

Bob and Shauna

I would like to have Windows Firewall running when I start my PC but every
time I turn onthe PC the Windows firewall is off and I have to manually
activate. It would be nice to have it active as the computer boots up.

For security, I have ZoneAlarm's personal firewall, Windows Defender,
Norton System works, and AVG Anti Virus Free edition. I also have a few
anti-spyware programs but they have to be manually activated.

Is there a way to have Windows firewall start with the PC as well as
ZoneAlarms firewall.

Thanks, Bob

No. You only want one firewall running at the same time and you have
ZoneAlarm.

Having more than one software firewall running is usually not a
good idea. Even Microsoft advises against it. Go to Start ->
Help and
Support and enter "Why you should only use one firewall" in the
Search box. Look under Full-text Search Matches for the
article.

Also, take a look at this web site for more info.

Firewall: FAQ

Should I use both the built-in firewall and a software firewall
from a different company on my Windows XP computer?
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/firewall.mspx

Since you have Zone Alarm installed, you might want to keep it
active and pass on running XP's firewall. Keep in mind that a
hardware firewall or even a NAT router offers better protection
than a software firewall. You can run a hardware firewall along
with a software firewall.

The general advice is to have one resident antivirus program,
one software firewall and multiple antispyware programs.

Good luck

It is preferable in my opinion to use as few programs as possible in securing
a computer. If you can use one program which provides all of your security
needs, please consider it. If you have a security center which has an
exceptional anti-spyware and anti-other malware along with your anti-virus
and firewall, then there simply is not any need for multiple syware and
malware programs. The program I use is super, it takes out even those
annoying cookies which are actually spyware instead of a real cookie. Anyway,
the major reason I replied to this post was to encourage users to use as few
programs as possible in securing a system. It is so much easier to have it
all in one central location, only have to configure one program, and only
have one norification area icon. It is just simpler and cleaner and easier to
work with. What good is a security solution you have scattered all over the
place, in different programs, with different interfaces, etc. Good luck and
have a great day.

I totlally disagree with this. I have not seen any security suites that I
would install on my personal computer. Most are bloated pieces of cr** that
slow down your computer. The few that aren't bloated pieces of **ap may
excel in one area but fall short in others. I much prefer to use seperate
applications. I can pick the best of each.

This is wrong when it comes to security suites. Use a separate
antivirus, firewall, and various antispyware programs.

hi all,
well i m not agree either use one all in one coz it mean some hacker
just have to stop one service and bhuum there you go.
i have norton antivirus (not really very good but so better then
nothing) and windows firewall and bit defender and ie7 but mostely i
dont use it as ms product are bit welcoming to spayware and malware so
i use firefox. and keep in mind try to update your firewall antivirus
and antispyware on daily bases.
and if you just work on your computer and dont visit hackers and
crackers site i belive you dont need to worry about anything and yes
about cookies i always delete them manualley why coz if i delete using
ie or firefox they left few of them there but i want to delete all so
never found any software to do this job auto. do you have any idea?
