Norton Go Back

Could any one tell me , if Norton go back can affect System Restore by xp and
could it be responsible for system restore being mysteriously turned off.

Also could system works or norton internet security 2006 be responsible for
disabling system restore?

Cheers

Dunno but if you have Go-Back you don't exactly need system restore as
Go Back is merely a version of exactly the same thing. Having system
restore disabled is no bad thing anyway as IMO its only real use is
the odd registry backup and to re-install spyware you are trying to
get rid of, I always disable System Restore unless I specifically need
it.

The best option is to ditch Go Back - Disable System Restore and use
Ghost 9 or Acronis True Image to do a full drive image to an external
HDD and increment it daily.

If however you wish to continue with an entirely false sense of
security Go-Back is just fine.

You obviously don't know much about GoBack. You might want to stick with
recommendations of products you do know something about.

Maybe not but the last version I used was 2002 and I realised that
when (not if) the HDD went tits up it would take Go-Back with it so as
a Backup / Restore app it was not a great idea. Then I started using a
Ghost Image instead and backing up to a Network drive at which point I
realised that I did not need GoBack although it was useful it had
become surplus to requirements, I could just restore the Image over
the network if I needed to. Not liking Ghost very much after it took 3
days to complete a restore on a busted workstation I got Acronis True
Image and have used it extensively to Image, backup and restore on a
daily basis ever since on the various commercial networks I administer
for a living these days.

So instead of sniping at me for advising the OP to get a decent backup
policy and stop stressing about GoBack shutting off System Restore
(theres a waste of headspace if ever I saw one), why not enlighten us
both with your vastly superior knowlege.

You've obviously never used GoBack. It is NOT merely a version of System
Restore. It does much more than restore System files. It restores
EVERYTHING to the condition it was at a previous time within GoBack's
allocated memory. It is an excellent system. It can also be used just to
find a previous version of a file if you want to recover to a previous
condition of a file. You can choose to overwrite the current file or
slightly change the filename or put it back in another folder so as to
retain the current version and compare it with the previous version. I've
used GoBack for years and it works great.

In addition, however, I also keep 3 complete images of my C: drive on my
200GB USB external hard drive, using DriveImage 7.0. In addition I keep
Quicken backups of my banking and online billpaying on another 80GB USB hard
drive using Quicken backup everytime I use Quicken. (it only takes about 5
seconds).

GoBack used to cause problems for users (who never read the instructions)
when they tried to boot to a floppy (pre WinXP) to change something. Now
that there is no DOS in WinXP for manually booting, even that minor problem
is gone.

Well, first of all, GoBack, Ghost and System Restore serve three totally
different functions. Learn what the three do and you'll see why your
statements don't make any sense.

Hey, finally someone who understands their purpose. I totally agree with
you and do something similar to backup mine with GoBack and Ghost (System
Retore disabled). BTW, have you tried the SyncToy utility? I got it off
the microsoft site recently and have it scheduled to copy select files
(quicken data, My Docs, etc) to my second hard drive on an hourly basis.
