Norton Ghost 9.0 won't activate on XP

This is what happen when you create products that require activation.

Symantec does not charge (Or at least they didn’t) a restocking fee.

In fairness to Symantec, they emailed me a key this morning, less that 12
hours after I posted to their webform that the activation didn't work.

Still, I think or hope that Symantec, like Intuit with their TurboTax
SNAFU, will realize that activation is a terrible way to protect a product
and that simple online registration is usually enough for security and
anti-piracy measures. Intuit had activation for one version of TT, and got
so many complaints they removed it from all future releases.

I prefer OpenSource software primarily for this reason, but also that it's
usually better (and of course, much cheaper) than the commercial
equivalents.

Well, I'll give them credit there too... They e-mailed me a new "activation
key" last night.

BUT, GUESS WHAT ? It's only 12 digits and just doesn't fit the bill because
the program wants 20 digits in 5 groups of 4. DUUUUUH ! drool....

Even though I gave them my order #, they seem to think I got a download
product (nope, got the retail box shipped on back-order) and tell me I was
given the activation key in my order confirmation e-mail.

Very funny. In my response to them, I attached the order confirmation
e-mail they sent me telling me it would be shipped UPS ground and NOT AN
ACTIVATION KEY IN SIGHT !

At least not one that works.

Shame on them that they're less competent to fix their products than the
underground crackers out there.

I'll hang with them just a little longer to see if they care to respond to
this serious problem before I get my money back and give it over to the
folks at Acronis (am using the trial of 8.0 and am fairly impressed so far).

I had the same problem - an activation key that wouldn't work. I called
their tech cuppost (had the screen up that said they would give free support
for activation problems, in case they started asking for money, which they
didn't)
Guys said some CD sleeves were misprinted - he gave me a new number and it
works fine. 5 groups of 4 numbers - same format as the number that
wouldn't work for me, but different digits.
Now - if I could figure out how to COMPLETELY uninstall the thing to solve
another problem I am having, that would be great...
