Norton AV Auto-Protect keeps DISABLING on start-up

I

Info Network

We're experiencing our Norton AV system "disabling" the AUTO-PROTECT mode
every time we boot up; we have the 2002 version (live-updates) on XP Home.

This started to occur during the "Sasser Worm" leakage...may be a connection.

We've tried contacting Norton but to no avail - any know know HOW to correct?

Thanks - Infnet

Hi,

Means you're still infected. Boot into safe mode by hitting F8 at system
startup, see if it will load Norton's and allow you to scan there.

I am using Norton AV 2004, and has the same problem that I can't turn the
auto-protect on. I have scan my system several times by using Norton AV
2004, as well as AVG Antivirus, but no virus has been detected.
Norton people keep telling me that i have to uninstall it cleanly and
reinstall again, however, no less than 6 times I repeat the process, the
Norton AV still shows the same problem.
I wish there is somebody in this world able to let me know how to correct
it.

Hi Paul,

To be honest with you, for me the best possible place to install anything
from Norton is in the circular file. That said, problems with installing
their software should be directed to their support forums, as this isn't a
Windows issue, and it's very widespread.

Keep in mind also that an AV program is only as good as the definition files
it is using. If they are out of date by even a few days, then a new variant
of some the common bugs can slip right through them and bugger up both the
AV program and the system.
