norton anitvirus could not update in my new XP proffessional

please help me out when ever i run liveupdate in norton it start but don't go beyoung registering produvt,
many times I had try to register Norton antivirus but i keep getting this message"connection to symantec server could not be established,
please ensure connetion to internet and click retry to try again.
althogh my Internet connection is already on.
hope i am able to expain my problem.

Are you using a firewall? Check the appications within the
firewall to see if you are allowing it to connect to the
internet.
