Norton and ActiveX problems

Hello! I am having a few problems I was hoping someone could help out
with. First off, when I load up Norton AntiVirus 2005, I get a message
stating that a component failed to load or is missing and directs me
uninstall and reinstall the program, which I have done twice without
solving the problem. If I press OK on the box, everything in the
window on system status, ie auto protect, full system scan, renewal
date, email scanning ect, turns red and when clicked on prompts me to
uninstall. I am able to manually update with live update and scan my
computer from the scan for viruses tab however, and no viruses were
found. Inside of the error box that pulls up when I open the
application, there is a link to the symantc website, which I have
clicked. I offers me a link to run a web tool that may fix the
problem. When I click this, then click begin, it tells me to click on
the yellow or blue bar below the address bar to allow the program to
use ActiveX, but the bar does not appear. I have also visited the
Microsoft Website hoping to find a security update that for some reason
did not make it to the computer, but it also asks me to right click a
blue bar to allow ActiveX access, but no bar appears. I have noticed
that when visiting a webpage using IE, that any Flash animation does
not load, and in it's place is a empty window with the tiny RBG icon in
the upper left hand corner. This Flash problem does not occur while
using FireFox. I have also tried to use system restore to fix this
problem, but half of the time when trying to pull it up it does
nothing, and the other half it presents me with an empty white window.
I have gone through my system processes one by one and they all seem to
be legitimate. I certainly appriciate any help I might get with this.
Thank you!

Had the same problem here awhile back. To "fix" it, I had to
uninstall and then manually delete all the remaining files and
registry entries with "Norton" in them.
Next time it installed OK. Never did figure out what caused
it. It started with an update from 05 to 06.

The ask the Author of the program you are having a problem with.

I removed Norton from the registry and reinstalled, and while this did
not fix the problem (it still does the same exact thing after
installation that it did, ie claim a component is missing or is not
installed) it did have a interesting side effect; it thinks I started
my subscription yesterday instead of 10 months ago. but, that is
neither here nor there. I was working with my father in law to track
the problem and it seem there are some registry entries missing,
specifically several entries under local machine, software, windows,
current version, policies. Trying to locate my XP disk to fix this.
Any other suggestions?
