Nortin AV 2004 and XP?

Believe I have an infected machine. So I go to a non-infected machine to
make
rescue disk set. Both machines are Win XP. Norton "Help" shows HOW to do
but I am unable to complete. Go to Norton site and after MUCH excavation
find the following crap.
Notes:
a.. Rescue is not available for Windows NT/2000/XP platforms. The Rescue
feature of Norton AntiVirus is available under Windows 95/98/Me only. Rescue
requires that the computer be restarted in MS-DOS mode, which is not
available under Windows NT/2000/XP. This means that, if you are running
Norton AntiVirus on Windows NT; Windows 2000; or Windows XP, the Norton
AntiVirus interface does not contain an option for creating a Rescue disk
set or to start the Rescue Disk Wizard.
b.. Rescue is not available on Norton AntiVirus 2005.
Question:
Does anybody ( company) have a virus scan program for XP independent of the
XP operating system?

Does anybody (company) have a virus scan program for XP independent of the
XP operating system ...

How can it be a scan for XP if it is independent of it?

I think what you mean, is that you want a scanner that isn't OS specific
in some way, i.e. will scan an NTFS or FAT drive regardless of the OS

Well O.K. however you wish to say it. If it is NOT DEPENDANT on the OS to
run then it would be independent of the OS. Since Norton's bull shit says
that XP
won't run in DOS then what's left?

erm, no, that's not what you said ... you asked for "a virus scan
program for XP independent of the XP operating system".

How can it be independent of XP when it is for XP?

None the less, you require a scanner that will run outside of Windows,
on an NTFS or FAT drive (given it has Windows installed) yes or no?
