Normal.dot

Using word 2003. Have got hung up with normal.dot three times. It will
not let me save a file as it says that normal.dot is being used by
another program. Have4 tried to delete the normal.dot file but again
it says it is being used by Microsoft word. Microsoft word is not
running and can't find out what is happening. If I shut the computer
down and restart windows I can go to the template folder and delete
the normal.dot file. The problem is that a couple of days later the
same problem happens. Any ideas??

Hi TonySper,

Normal.dot being used by another program shouldn't interfere with
standard saving...

If you're using Outlook, with Word as the email editor, then that would
prevent you from renaming Normal.dot.

You could also have another program that's using Word (for spell check,
perhaps). When you see the message, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then
choose the "Task Manager". Look in applications to see what's listed for
"Word", and if there's anything there you didn't create. If you don't
find anything there, check in "Processes" whether you find more than one
Winword.exe listed?
