Normal.dot in a network

How can I make changes in the normal.dot in a network (Word2000, Win2000)
when people are logged in and working in Word?
We have a normal.dot with macros and special menues and need to make
changes now and then. And this is difficult because there is almost always
somebody working and then it is not possible to make changes in the
normal.dot.
