normal.dot global template

How do you find and change the global word document template? It used to be
called 'normal.dot' - in the past I have made a copy of this, made the
desired changes, renamed the original 'oldnormal', and then renamed the copy
as 'normal.dot'.
I am using word2000

cheers

It should be here: C\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates. Open it from
there and be sure you haven't opened just a new blank document based on the
template. It's still called "Normal.dot," but the .dot may not appear if you
have turned off the suffixes function.

As an alternate, you can use File-Open within Word; under "Files of type"
selection "Document Templates," and find Normal.dot that way. You can also
open a new document, make changes, and save it as Normal.dot.

normal.dot will be in your user templates folder. You can find this location
from within Word using:
Tools > Options > File Locations
Click on the modify button for the user templates folder to get the full
path (but don't modify, click on Cancel to back out).

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see

You can also
open a new document, make changes, and save it as Normal.dot.

You should have stopped while you were ahead; this will *not* create a valid
Normal.dot.

Let's assume that all three of your posts)?) refer to the same thing, which
is that you have the vertical page alignment set to something other than top
(File > Page Setup > Layout > Vertical Alignment.)

Normal.dot is called normal.dot in Word 2000. However only Word can create
normal.dot (when a file of that name is missing). Frankly I don't see how
the procedure you describe will do anything other than put back normal.dot
as it was originally - before you messed with it.
