Global Word Template

Hi, Does anyone know of a way that I can setup a normal.dot template that
will be applied to any / all user(s) who logs into a machine. I can easily
edit each users profile normal.dot file but not a global one??

You cannot share the Normal.dot file among multiple users in Word

You could copy a normal.dot template into the users' user templates folder
when the users log-in, but that will negate the whole point of normal.dot
which is a place to store personalisations, and thus cripple productivity
and irritate users. Much better to provide users with the document templates
they require to do their jobs.

I know you can give every user the same normal.dot. I don't think it is
possible to do this for a single computer (unless you do not have a
network).

If I remember correctly you can set it with the path for general templates
(not sure if this works past Word 97) - it's been a long time since I have
seen this happening. Our system administrator used to set both workgroup
templates and general templates to the same path and accidentally everyone
started sharing the same normal.dot. It was rather impractical.

If you are looking for an easy way to distribute macros or autotexts or
toolbars or buttons this is not the obvious way to go. In that case you can
make a template with your customizations in there and set everyones startup
path to the same location where you keep this (global) template.

I know of one company who have customized the normal.dot. They want to give
everyone access to customized styles - also on documents based on the
normal.dot. They do not share normal.dot there, however.
