normal.dot delete problem

Every few months I encounter the corrpupted normal.dot problem.
Eventually I am able to delete it...but only after getting repeated
messages that it cannot be deleted or renamed because MS word is in
use. The key to the fix is to go into the Task Manager (Control-Alt-
Delete) -> Processes and terminate MS Word. Don not assume Word is not
running simply beacuse you closed it or do not see it in the
Applications section of the Task Manager....you must go into the
Processes tab. Works like a charm!!

Closing Outlook (which is probably the reason why WinWord is still running)
is the safer option. If you force a crash out of Word you are only adding to

If you are using Word as an email editor, you'll have to close not
only Word but also Outlook before deleting normal.dot.

Note, however, that normal.dot shouldn't corrupt that frequently. Are
you running any (poorly designed) add-ins?
