non-printable text

Is there a way to have text in a document that can be seen while working on
it but that does not print? I have some letters I need to send to clients
but I have notes to myself in them that I don't want to print but I don't
want to remove the notes. Can this be done (ms word 2003).

Thanks,

Keith

In Format> Font there is a checkbox to apply the Hidden attribute, which is
best applied by way of inclusion in a Style. Hidden text only appears/prints
when the non-printing characters (¶) are displayed in the document.

Just keep in mind that anyone who turns on the ¶s will still be able to read
the hidden content... Whenever you give someone a copy of the actual doc
you're also giving them the opportunity to do with it what they choose. As
long as the client isn't intended to make changes you might consider sending
them PDFs rather than Word docs... Just turn off the ¶s (hidden text
included, of course) before generating the PDF;-)

I print these and mail them. Nobody else ever sees the electronic docs but
me. I'd rather not hide the text that doesn't print from my view so I'll
keep hidden text turned on so I can see it while working on the doc. I see
that regardless of whether or not I can see the hidden text while working on
the document, that text does not preview or print which is what I needed. I
don't need to show the non-printing characters after all. Thanks for the
info. -keith

Glad it was helpful - If you ever want to print including the hidden content
there is a checkbox in the print options to do so.
