Non Plug and Play Drivers--Yellow Caution Symbol-Parport and Seria

When each item is opened it says " This device is not present, is not
working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)" I
have had continual problems installing software for the hp psc 2175
printer/scanner/copier. Hp has taken me through this several times, working
around known bugs and updating the drivers from their website. It works okay
for a bit but then we start with the following sequence whenever the printer
is turned on or is on at bootup--

1.) New Hardware Device Found balloon from the System Tray/Notification Area

2.) followed by the opening of the Found New Hardware Wizard--

3.) Canceling that leads to the balloon from the SystemTray/Not. Area that
the device was not installed properly and may not function right.

Well, the printer works just fine in all aspects--all its functions are
present and nothing seems wrong. Hp's advice is that the install becomes
corrupted in Registry entries over time and you must unistall/reinstall once
again. Nuts. I've done this about five times since last Fall.

Does anybody have a clue on how to get rid of this annoyance? And are those
yellow caution signs on the Parport and Serial entries in Non Plug and Play
Drivers tree something caused by this printer software glitch? What happens
if I disable them?

I am in sense an expert, but I can follow instructions and work my way
around XP Home edition pretty well.

Thank you for your help,
