i recently installed a windows small business server 2003 with
windows server 2003
exchange server 2003
symantec antivirus corporate for exchange

and i no have the problem, that recipients which do not use outlook
as email client get only a "winmail.dat" as attachment when i send mails
with files attached. outlook clients recieve the email correct with
the attached files.
it doesn't matter if i send the email in rtf, html or "text-only" format...!

i found a similar bug (and hotfix) with f-secure AV on exchange 2003
but i don't use f-secure products and i found nothing with symantec AV.

i would be really pleased for any suggestions.

did you check the settings on the exchange server - it may be sending rtf to
the internet.

When pdf's disapear after you send them or someone receives it as a
winmail.dat file your email account setup for sending format is NOT the only
place you have to turn off Rich Text Format for sending emails. You must
also change the rich text format in the email address properties in your
address book for the person you are sending to. double click on the email
address to bring up the email address properties and change it to let outlook
decide. The address book properties over ride what you choose in your email
account set up.
