Noisy Processor Fan

Hey,

My laptop is making funny noises, I have a feeling it's the processor but it
may be the harddrive. It used to make this noise before i wiped the
harddrive, problem is I can't wipe it's memory right now. It's constantly
loud, and up until a few days ago it only sounded like this when i was
running a huge number of programs. I have tried to defragment, run spyware,
clean up the C drive, run adaware, run antivirus software none of which has
worked. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Processors don't make noise, and software has nothing to do with noise. You've got a hardware problem, possibly the fan or the hard disk or both. Bring your laptop to a technician, or send it back for repairs under warranty, and do it FAST. Meanwhile, backup your data often.

Well.. get it serviced if it is under warranty (hopefully you are backing up
your data daily at least - and/or not storing it on the actual machine
anyway.) If it is not under warranty - then you need to figure out what is
makining the noise. A fan or the hard drive (those are really your only
choices in a laptop.)

Get some canned air - and with the laptop OFF, holding the can upright,
spray into all the slots you can that lead into the computer. I have seen
too many times when a user has a pet or just doesn't clean much - their few
ait intake or outgoing slots get clogged and/or the fans get all clumped
with stuff. Usually a good cleansing with canned air takes care of it.

Formatting a drive will not stop a hardware problem - which is usually why
one makes noise. You could download and use a disk diagnostic program from
the hard disk drive manufacturer and test for issues.

Thanks for the help. I'm not quite sure what canned air is where can i get
something like this? The fan turns off when i first start the machine and if
i enter setup from the MS DOS launch screen it doesn't make any noise.

Thanks
