Noisy Microphones

I have XP sp1 and an integrated sound system(Realtek AC97 Audio) in the
mother board (msi) . From time to time there is a high noise from my
speakers. the noise is not unified and If I reboot, it is quite (though in
the startup itself its noisy for a few seconds and then become quite).
Can someone suggest on possible causes?

There can be several causes, depending on the position of the
microphone to the loudspeakers. An increasing, high-pitched
squeal, for example, can be associated with audio feedback from
the speakers to the microphone. Turn down the output volume to
the speakers and find a comfortable position where feedback is
minimized.

You also might want to check and see if your mic is "muted", it should
be, in the volume control panel settings.
