NoDriveTypeAutorun and KB967715)

I have a WinXP SP3 system, and following
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715/ tried to install Update
for Windows XP (KB967715). It seemed to install fine, but under
Gpedit.msc, the entry for "System" does not exist. Using
regedit, I found HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun and it said
"·N·o·D·r·i·v·e·T·y·p·e·A·u·t·o·R·u·n·"·=·d·w·o·r·d·:·0·0·0·0·0·
1·6·7·, but would not let me enter 0xFF into the data field,
either decimal or hex. What am I doing wong?

What exactly do you type and what exactly happens when you do it? ". . .
would not let me enter . . ." doesn't tell us a great deal!

Thank you for the reply. When I start typing into the box, it
will accept the "0" but not the "x" or the "FF" - I type it on
my keyboard, but nothing happens in the data field. The current
REG_DWORD is 0x00000167(359). "Modify" shows 167 in the Value
data field (with Base HEX selected).

You either type numerals between 0 and 9 (when in decimal mode) or between 0
and 9 plus A to F (when in hex mode). You do not type the letter "x". And,
of course, you start the whole process by pressing the Enter key to open the
data field for keyboard entry.

0xFF is Hexadecimal value FF which equates to decimal value 255. So if
you select modify, and the data field is currently 167 then you can
enter 255 as the value.

Thank you, thank you. That works and helps. Another satisfied
