Cannot type x

I am trying to perform the following steps on Windows XP Home. When I get to
step 4, I am unable to get the x to show. Is there a key I can press other
than the x key?

For operating systems that do not include Gpedit.msc, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following entry in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explo rer\NoDriveTypeAutorun
3. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun, and then click Modify.
4. In the Value data box, type 0xFF to disable all types of drives.
5. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
6. Restart the computer.

I forgot to mention that the keyboard works fine typing x anywhere else on my
computer.

All you have to enter is FF, or click Decimal instead of Hexadecimal and put
in 255.

The "0x" prefix just means that the characters following represent a
hexadecimal number (ditto for a suffix of "h"). So as long as the "edit"
regedit box you're typing in has "Hexadecimal" selected as the "Base", just
type FF as the value.
