No wake up after standby

I have a problem. When we put the xp system in standby mode, the system will
not wake up anymore. Pushing the button makes the system wake up a bit (it
makes noice) but the screen remains black and the system does not react on
the mouse or keyboard.

Is this a known problem (service pack 2 has been installed)? Does anyone
know the (an) answer?

I forgot to say that this did work before. Only for the last 2 weeks (I am
pretty sure that it is since the installation of service pack 2) the problem
occurs.

Ok, I have resolved the issue. I do however not understand why I had the
problems.

I did the following:
The notebook was configured to go to "standby" once the laptop was closed. I
changed that to "slaapstand" (dutch) which means something like sleeping.
And I can wake up from sleeping.

I do not know the difference between sleeping and standby and I do not know
why sleeping is "better". But the problem has been solved and that's what
counts!
